It all started when Doug TenNapel took a sketch to David Perry. Shiny & Playmates toys (not those toys) had been looking for a new product, this was it.
Shiny had previously only done licenced games so with this one they took the muzzle off & went to town, it was all kinds of crazy. It was therefore a kind of parody on platform games, even the love interests name was “Princess whats her name”.
It went on to have a successful television show made of it, as well as a comic book run. Jim was voiced by non other than Dan Castellaneta, aka Homer Simpson.
A HD version released in 2010, as a straight conversion, only the graphics were renewed. While the graphics were well received, the gameplay was noted as being “a bit dated”.
