Getting murdered before you’ve even started the game is a strange way to kick off..
It was incredibly controversial when it came out. To the point that it had a parental warning on the home versions! (long before the days of the ESRB).
Truly full of blood, gore, extreme violence, it also had more than a splash of occult goings on. While quite normal now, it was all unheard of in it’s day.
It borrowed heavily from films like Evil Dead & Friday the 13th, though in later games the ice hockey mask started to look more like a skull.
There were several sequels made & even a re-boot recently that stuck to the original, being really gory..
